About the Application Process

Application Deadline:
A
pplications for 2022-23 CHEX are currently postponed given the coronavirus situation currently in the US and China.

Eligibility:
All BHS students are welcome to apply. Students will be selected on the basis of the following criteria: strong academic records; interest in and aptitude for learning Chinese language, history and culture; ability to serve as ambassador from Brookline and the United States abroad; sensitivity to other people and cultures; interest in being a global leader; and successful completion of the application and interview.
**All students going on the exchange will be expected to study Chinese intensively for two weeks during the summer prior to exchange and during the fall semester at BHS.

Costs:
We estimate that the student/family’s share of the expenses in this program will be approximately $4400, depending on airline ticket prices.  Your contribution covers the following; books, airfare, travel (to/from China and within China).  Tuition, room and board while in China are covered. NOT INCLUDED IS THE TUITION OF THE SUMMER LANGUAGE COURSE (approximately $450 per student), AND SPENDING MONEY. We recommend approximately $500 per student to carry to China for the Spring semester.
If financial costs are a concern, the CHEX Program has funds available for financial aid. Please note an interest for financial need on the application. FINANCIAL NEED IN NO WAY AFFECTS A STUDENT’S CONSIDERATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CHEX PROGRAM.

Questions:
